It's spring.
I opened the windows. Smelled fresh cut grass. Let the wind blow out all the funk from the winter months. It felt so good.
The kids played outside in the sandbox (in direct disobedience to what I'd said. But whatever. They were outside.) I got some stuff cleaned up in the dining room. Then they wanted to come inside.
Are.you.kidding.me?
It's 75 beauteous degrees outside. It's sunny. We're not having hurricane force winds. So, no. No, you may not come inside.
*whine whine whine*
*screaaaammming*
"bee bee bee bee bee!!!!!"
Followed by Sarah flinging herself bodily against the screen door until I can wrench it open to grab her, search her, pat her down, to find the bee, the wasp, the hordes of stinging insects that are attacking my baby's body!!
What I find? Is an ant. AN ANT. On her finger. That may or may not had wings. I wiped her tears, managed to not laugh directly in front of her, and then yes, I locked that screen door and kept them outside. What?
Later. Violet has joined us. We've had some fun, and now, guess what? The whining has started again. I lock the door. It's still 75. It's 6:00 and still light outside. Havent' you been whining about wanting this, and now you have it and .. .??
At some point I realized that my children were on my deck, in my backyard, which is a corner lot and not fenced. Just in view of like, the entire world, and my kids were there, yelling to me inside my house.
"Can we come in now?"
While I yelled back, "NO! Stay.outside!"
That can't look good.
So I brought them inside. I made dinner, Violet finished her homework, Sarah and John ran around like loons.
And just now?
[caption id="attachment_678" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="She looks so quiet when she's sleeping. HA!"][/caption]
John, at the top of the stairs, yelling, "Mooommy, I can't sleep!"
So I yelled back, "Yes, yes you can!"
[caption id="attachment_679" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Those fingers. They're going to cost us thousands."][/caption]
More whining followed. Drinks were needed. Stink bugs were found and killed. Blankets were rearranged prettily. More drinks (and not by me. So wrong.) were had. Finally, everyone was back in bed. And then.
[caption id="attachment_680" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Violet. She's fun to mess with when she's sleeping."][/caption]
"Mooommmy, I can't sleeeeppp."
"I dooonnn't care!"
And the windows are open.
Awesome.
LOL! Don't worry......I've done that too. I've made them stay outside when they've wanted to come in. One time they both stood at the sliding glass door crying for almost the entire 30 minutes that I made them stay outside!
ReplyDeleteAnd I had that same thought about the windows and neighbors on Saturday. We had the windows open and my kids did something and I yelled at them and then though....OMG, what must the neighbors think?? :)
I do this too. My neighbours are old and probably don't know CPS' phone number. I should be safe.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I have given you The Versatile Blogger Award (I did you first, hee hee).
You can find it here: http://www.amountainmomma.com/2011/04/12/the-versatile-blogger-omg-its-me/
Congrats!
hehehe. I'm sure our neighbors think I'm killing my baby. He's a crier. Always has been. Now that the windows are open I'm sure the rumors will start flying ;)
ReplyDeleteLove it! I hope your neighbors think, "Way to go, mama!"
ReplyDeleteWe often have to force my boys to play outside too. I just don't get why they think it's such torture to play outside. I practically lived outside when I was a kid. But of course we didn't have computers, video games, ipods and five hundred channels on the t.v. either!
ReplyDeleteLove the sleeping pics. Precious.
I think about this a lot too. What people must think when I spaz out on Bella and they don't see the whole story. :/
ReplyDeleteJohn is too cute sleeping. His eye looks a lot better.
LOL! I found myself complaining that it was "so hot" on Sunday, after weeks, even months of complaining about winter and it being too cold. In my defense, it was 83 degrees when they only forecasted 73 and I was out shopping in an outdoor mall, wearing jeans...and NO ONE had their AC on.
ReplyDeleteAh, spring!
ReplyDeleteMy mom's rule:
ReplyDeleteGo outside and play. OR...stay in & clean.
Needless to say we were always outside!
GAH - Kate my mom was the same! "get out, or I'll find something for you to clean!"
ReplyDeleteAs for those fingers costing you thousands? He can lisp a lil :p
well, I didn't hear you, so that's good, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Theresa! You are just too kind! I'll be linking up as soon as I finish this painting :)
ReplyDeleteSarah and John were the same! At least w/ Violet there were 4 new babies on the block at once so they all cried together. I can't see any other kids from my yard, where we live now, so it's just my 3, stranded and screaming.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping! Because it's better that they are outside then inside and infront of the t/v!
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I think! So I shove them out there, and they are good for a while, but when the whining starts . . .
ReplyDeleteI always want to yell, "Before I wigged out I redirected 20 times and put them in time out and we discussed appropriate behavior and what God wants and all that!! And NOW I'm losing my mind!"
ReplyDeletelol -- they were too! Ah, well, we're not used to it, yet!
ReplyDeleteLet the good times roll . . .of course they'll play outside for hours and hours at my friends house. But here, so I can get some stuff done? Never.gonna.happen. :)
ReplyDeleteOOOh, Kate! You're mom is a genius! First the themes, and now THIS! So stealing it!!
ReplyDeleteYou too, Momma? How did I not know about this gem? My kids are going to love me. You'll be getting hate mail. I'm warning you now.
ReplyDeleteShe really is a genius!
ReplyDeleteHere's another one she always did:
You slam your bedroom door then you lose the privilege of having said door. That's right, she took it down!!!!
I had to go without a bedroom door for days because I slammed it. It was awful, especially since I had been sharing a room for 11 years & had FINALLY gotten my own room a few months before the door slamming incident.
Yes, that's very good. I yelled really loud! LOL! And you'll be happy to know that I've not heard you or your children either. :)
ReplyDeleteI told Violet I was going to do just this the other day! Yay me!
ReplyDeleteThe first four months of my baby's life he screamed his little head off. I used to wonder what our neighbors thought I was doing to him :-/ Your snoozing kidlets look so adorable.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to know I'm not alone in this worry!! The way Sarah and John screamed . . I thought the exact same thing.
ReplyDeleteUgh, aren't you loving the 70 degree weather we get for a MOMENT! When will we get a stretch of more than 12 hours of it? Great story as usual! :)
